IDEAS NCBR Sp. z o.o. is a research and development centre operating in the field of artificial intelligence and digital economy, whose mission is to support the development of these technologies in Poland by creating a platform that connects the academic and business environments.

IDEAS NCBR Sp. z o.o. is a part of the National Center for Research and Development (NCBR Group). Our goal is to build in Poland the largest, friendly to conduct innovative research platform, to educate a new generation of scientists focused on the practical application of the developed algorithms and their subsequent commercialization in the industry, finance, medicine and other branches of the economy.

At IDEAS NCBR, we are constantly on the lookout for new talent. If you are a student or graduate of Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline and would like to pursue a career in research, then share your plans with us by applying for this position. As a team member, you will have the opportunity to work with many authorities in the field of artificial intelligence in the team led by Dr. Przemyslaw Musialski, Assoc. Prof.

With expertise in diverse areas such as geometric modeling, geometry processing, computational fabrication, and machine learning, we strive to create algorithmic solutions for digital content generation. Our research efforts are dedicated to revolutionizing content creation, geometry generation, realistic rendering, and physical simulations in applications ranging from computer games and movie productions to virtual reality and 3D design.

As a part of our group, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects, publish in top-tier conferences and journals, and collaborate with a diverse team of experts.

This PhD research focuses on the development of efficient solvers for partial differential equations (PDEs) using implicit neural networks in the context of so-called Physics Informed Neural Networks (PINN). This project aims to advance the field of physical simulations in computer graphics, with a particular emphasis on applications such as fluid simulation, character animation, crowd simulation, and elastic deformation.

Physical simulations play a crucial role in computer graphics for creating realistic animations, deformations, and interactions within virtual environments. However, traditional numerical solvers for PDEs used in physical simulations can be computationally expensive and challenging to scale for complex scenarios. This Ph.D. project seeks to address these limitations by leveraging Physics Informed Neural Networks, a powerful framework that combines the strengths of neural networks and physics-based modeling.

DESCRIPTION OF YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will carry out research and development work related to issues such as:

  • conduct an extensive review of existing research on physical simulations, implicit neural representations, and Physics Informed neural networks;
  • develop novel architectures and techniques for Physics Informed neural networks tailored specifically for efficient solvers of PDEs in computer graphics applications;
  • investigate methods for integrating physical constraints and principles into the neural networks, allowing for accurate and physically plausible simulations;
  • explore techniques for handling complex and nonlinear phenomena, such as fluid dynamics, cloth dynamics, or crowd behavior, using Physics Informed neural networks;
  • optimize the training and inference processes of the neural networks to ensure real-time or interactive performance in computer graphics applications;
  • collaborate with researchers in computer graphics and related fields to apply the developed solvers and techniques in practical scenarios, validating their effectiveness and scalability;
  • disseminate research findings through publications in reputable conferences and journals, and present the work at relevant workshops and seminars.

Your work will be research-focused with minimal teaching responsibilities,

  • teaching a minimum of 60 hours per year.

THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • a strong background in computer science, applied mathematics, physics, or related fields;
  • proficiency in computer graphics, machine learning, numerical methods, and physics-based simulations will be advantageous but is not required;
  • strong programming skills;
  • a solid mathematical foundation;
  • a passion for research;
  • proactive approach to solving scientific problems and issues;
  • strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • ability to work in a team;
  • fluency in English.

We would be pleased to see in your application:

  • references with min. 1 contact to people, who can recommend you.

WE OFFER:

  • contract of employment;
  • working with high-level scientific staff in an international environment;
  • flexible working hours in a hybrid system;
  • private medical care;
  • participation in the Medicover Benefits program and co-financing tickets for cultural events;
  • a real influence on the creation of the company's structure and culture;
  • remuneration including doctoral scholarship: approx. PLN 12,000 gross;
  • an innovation bonus in the form of a share in the benefits from the future commercialisation of the research project results as additional remuneration. The bonus, depending on the model adopted for the commercialisation of the results of the research project, may take the form of:
    • entitlement to a share of IDEAS NCBR's income from the commercialisation of the results of the work (in particular in the form of licences or disposal of intellectual property rights) or,
    • entitlement to subscribe for shares or stocks in a spin-out company commercialising such solutions,
  • sponsoring a doctoral school in Poland and abroad;
  • budget for travel to the best scientific conferences and for, internships and study visits;
