IDEAS NCBR Sp. z o.o. is a scientific and research centre operating in the field of artificial intelligence and digital economy, whose mission is to support the development of these technologies in Poland by creating a platform connecting the academic and business environment. IDEAS NCBR Sp. z o.o. was founded by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) and is a part of NCBR Group. 

Our goal is to build in Poland the largest, friendly to conduct innovative research platform, to educate a new generation of scientists focused on the practical application of the developed algorithms and their subsequent commercialization in the industry, finance, medicine and other branches of the economy.

IDEAS NCBR is now seeking to appoint a Group Leader in Robotics who will build and lead the most recognizable research group (circa 20 people) in this area. Candidates with AI in Robotics expertise are strongly encouraged to apply. Reporting to the President, the Group Leader will develop and lead an exciting programme of research and innovation projects aligned with the vision and mission of IDEAS NCBR. The Group Leader will also act as an ambassador for IDEAS NCBR, representing the centre nationally and internationally, forging links with universities and industry, and identifying relevant opportunities for commercialisation.



  • Develop and manage a portfolio of computer science research and innovation that is relevant to AI and the digital economy technologies.
  • Build, manage and lead a 20-person team of senior and junior researchers. IDEAS NCBR covers researchers’ cost and provides help with the hiring process.
  • Carry out line-management, performance and talent management, and be responsible for the development of team members.
  • Be an ambassador of the Robotics Research Group and IDEAS NCBR.

Research and Mentoring

  • Develop and lead on research programmes of significant impact and quality in your own subject area.
  • Secure external funding which develops research capacity in IDEAS NCBR and advances its reputation.
  • Publish research outcomes in high-quality publications or other recognised forms of output (e.g., software, patents, creative works, externally recognised professional practice).
  • Actively pursue research and collaborative partnerships across leading Polish Universities and with other institutions and relevant bodies.
  • Provide intellectual leadership and mentoring to other academic staff in the Research Group and provide development and support to fulfil research objectives.
  • Lead a research-focused team, supervise postgraduate students and post-doctoral staff as appropriate and actively contribute to and support staff development programmes.

Innovation and Commercialisation

  • Identify and develop commercial opportunities relevant to the strategy of IDEAS NCBR.
  • Communicate and collaborate with industry partners, identifying applications of research outputs, providing technologies solutions to industry. IDEAS NCBR will be able to provide a dedicated commercialisation benefit program, with a support team along and a secured position in a future spin-out company.


Person Specification

The successful candidate will be an established research leader in the field of Robotics, with an international reputation and track record of success in this or any relevant area, including but not limited to Machine Learning in Robotics, Computer Vision in Robotics.


  • PhD or equivalent in Robotics, Computer Science or relevant areas,
  • Experience of leading, winning and managing major research grants.
  • Experience of supervising the successful completion of doctoral students.
  • Experience of successful supervision of post-doctoral researchers.

Skills, knowledge & abilities

  • Relevant depth and breadth of knowledge in Robotics.
  • External evidence of demonstratable research excellence with a track record of outputs in top international journals and conferences.
  • Evidence of research experience, a minimum of 5 years of related experience in supervision and managing research projects, including two years in a leadership role (e.g., Task Lead, Project Lead, etc.).
  • Ability to lead and motivate academics, acting as a mentor to relevant staff.

  • tools necessary for work: mobile phone, laptop etc.
